After so much planning it was great to be live and fixing at Portsmouth’s first Repair Café.
We had people come from across Portsmouth, and they brought all manner of things, which our 26 volunteers got busy fixing.
It was great to have Vlad join the team and bring his amazing skills with leather. He managed to repair a much loved belt and has started to help on the repair of some shoes.
We also had a good number of toys arrive, including a Hot Wheels car park, Lego racing set, hobby horse, penguin and even a mechanical snake, which Matthew had the satisfaction of restoring and we all enjoyed watching it then slither around the hall.
Other sucessful fixes included a suitcase, shredder, sewing machine, several bikes, necklace and even a pen.
You can next find us at St Mary’s Community May Fayre on Bank Holiday Monday (7th May) between 10am & 4pm in the church building itself. We’ll mainly be promoting Repair Café, but we’ll also have a selection of repairers available throughout the day to help with some small electrical, computer or fabric based fixes. We’ll also have more of Sugru’s moldable glue to give away.
We’ll then be back at Buckland URC, 174 Kingston Road on Saturday 19th May from 10.30am.
In the meantime, if we’ve inspired you to try repair something, why not tell us about it. You can use the hashtag #PompeyFix on Facebook or Twitter to tell us about it. Let’s see how much fun we can have repairing over the next month. Check out sites such as iFixit for help with Repair Guides.
