Saturday’s Repair Café saw a steady stream of visitors bringing a wide range of items, needing help to repair them.
Bikes, scooters, stereos, toys, hedge trimmers, zips, tears, earrings, lamps and more.
In total we helped with 56 items and an amazing 40 of them were fixed, and a further 6 will be returning with spare parts next month, for some help in replacing them. People learnt how to sew, make backups on their laptops, and change tyres on their bikes.
And can you spot a return visitor from last year?
Yes…that cheeky snake had stopped working again, but was too fiddly for the owner to repair, so he came back and the snake came to life once more.
Others were advised to take items back to suppliers as they were less than a year old and shouldn’t be breaking already, and there are always a few that need professional, specialist attention, but we help to google local trades people to get folk started.
We also had a lovely surprise delivery of cake from a local woman, which was delicious and it’s lovely to feel part of the neighbourhood.
Next month Repair Café around the world will be celebrating it’s 10 year anniversary, so watch out for more news on what we’ll be up to in Portsmouth on Saturday 19th October.
In the meantime, we’ll also be at the New Theatre Royal on Sunday 6th October, between 11am & 4pm, as part of their Fun Palaces event. We’ll just be helping with fabric repairs on that day, so please only bring along those types of items. There will also be loads of fun for all the family around the theatre, bringing together arts, culture and science this year. Find out more here.
